CHINESE CULTURE VS COLOMBIAN CULTURE
There are many differences and
similarities between China and Colombia in terms of gender stereotypes. First,
in China, the idea that girls can not or should not do the same jobs as boys is
inherited very early. It is a lesson that extends to the university and later.
For example, some Chinese universities only allow a percentage of women to
enter a career that they consider inappropriate for them. On the other hand, in
Colombia, gender stereotypes are already firmly rooted in today's youth around
10 years of age about what you want to be when you grow up, according to a
study. The fact is that when women behave in ways incompatible with their
gender, social rejection is so big that they generally avoid any situation and repress
what they want to be in life.
Second, The way of seeing beauty in
Asian countries (China) is very different than to most American countries. In
China, The most common stereotypes that define a woman as beautiful are white
skin and without imperfections, long eyelashes, long nails, neat and decorated
and their thinness. While in Colombia, women for being Latina, must be
curvilinear, with dark skin and hair, dark eyes and full lips. In conlusion,
there are many and diverse gender stereotypes in both countries that do not
help the fairness of conditions in the world.
